Day after day, Rietje Geurts finds her way from the heart to her sculptures. The deeply human emotions expressed in her bronze works continue to resonate with people, who recognize in them the connections and relationships they themselves share with others.

The personal bond Rietje has with each sculpture remains ever-present, as every new edition is almost entirely rebuilt from the beginning. With patience and dedication, she brings her figures back to life in wax before they are cast in bronze. Her consistent use of wax often pushes the material to its limits. Diva, for example, is a sculpture whose scale is extraordinary for a work created in wax. Yet this challenge is precisely what she loves: the process of creating, of working endlessly on her sculptures.

To retreat into the studio, to begin with nothing, and gradually watch a figure emerge from the first forms. Discovering an idea, a story, a sense of harmony, is at the heart of her artistic practice.
