Kristof Montens (Bruges, 1983) is a Belgian artist whose work explores themes of nature, sustainability, and wonder. Driven by a fascination with beauty, progress, and the unifying power of nature, he creates works that invite reflection and encourage a renewed appreciation of our environment.

At the heart of his oeuvre is the Shading Shapes series, in which recycled wood is transformed into dynamic compositions of light, colour, and shadow. Using a chainsaw, Montens cuts organic forms into wooden panels. Through the interplay of carved structures and shifting light, a continuous dialogue emerges between the artwork, the surrounding space, and the viewer. The characteristic grooves enhance a sense of movement and depth.

Through his work, Montens invites viewers to pause and reflect on both the beauty and fragility of nature. His colourful, organic compositions offer a reflection on our role within an ever-changing natural environment.

Kristof Montens (Brugge, 1983) is een Belgische kunstenaar wiens werk thema's als natuur, duurzaamheid en verwondering verkent. Gedreven door een fascinatie voor schoonheid, vooruitgang en de verbindende kracht van de natuur, creëert hij werken die uitnodigen tot reflectie en een hernieuwde waardering voor onze leefomgeving.

Centraal in zijn oeuvre staat de reeks Shading Shapes, waarin gerecycleerd hout wordt getransformeerd tot dynamische composities van licht, kleur en schaduw. Met een kettingzaag snijdt Montens organische vormen in houten panelen. Door het samenspel van uitgesneden structuren en veranderende lichtinvallen ontstaat een voortdurende dynamiek tussen het kunstwerk, de ruimte en de toeschouwer. De karakteristieke groeven versterken het gevoel van beweging.
